AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.
BAD 'WEATHER ,EOR TARANAKI GATHERING. > (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 22. The Taranaki Agricultural Society’s annual metropolitan spring show opened to-day. The weather was showery and unpleasant. The entries are nearly double, those .of last,year, and constitute a record for the society. The principal increases are in horses, sheep, dairy produce, and dogs, in which section is an increase of 50 entries. Championship's: Draught mare, Alex. Hastie, Normanby; thoroughbred mare, J. Bond, New Plymouth; Holstein bull, Newton King, New Plymouth; cow, Newton King; Avrshires —Bull, F. W. Wilkie, Hawera; cow, Olsen Bros., Egmont Village; Jerseys—Bull, W. V. Harkness, Tariki; cow, A. Ward, Miro. Dairy produce: The two big events, 5 Lovell and Christmas’ 75-guinea trophy and Taranaki Agricultural Society’s challenge trophy went to the Taeiri and Peninsula Co., Dunedin and Oamaru, filling first and second places in each class. Cheese: Kaponga first, Waiea second. The competition in the butter classes of the show continues to-morrow. The weather indications are not good. PEOPLE’S DAY AT NELSON. NELSON, Nov. 22. The Governor opened the People’s Day of the Nelson Show this afternoon, and was entertained by the A. and P. Association at lunch. The attendance at the show was a record. In the evening Lord Islington was entertained at a banquet hv the citizens. He leaves for the West Coast to-morrow morning.
