ENTERTAINMENTS.
PATHE PICTURES. A crowded audience assembled in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening to witness the production of the new midweek series of pictures. The chief attractions were the depictions of the Victorian Racing Club’s Derby and the Melbourne Cup, both of which races were hotly contested by record fields. It is well known that these events attract the elite of the Australasian racehorses, and both races furnished very interesting finishes. The immense crowds of people present make the scenes doubly gay. and altogether the films are excellent pourtrayals of these very important events. Every" member of last night’s audience was obviously delighted by “The Ruling Passion” which is one of the best comedies seen here for some time. It depicts how a very clever boy becomes imbued with the idea that the stage is the nieeca of all merry souls and finds solace for liis passion m deep tragedy enacted in the nursery. “The State Line” an-cl “The Changing of Silias Warner” were valuable dramatic items, and the industrial selection included a beautiful wax modelling depiction, and an interesting study of the methods of hootmaking. “When a Man Marries” was a. comedy satire, and other noteworthy numbers were _ “Entrevcaux,” and “Smiler Tries Ju Jitsu.” The series will be repealed this evening.
