the 4th head, Put on reaching the 13th head Smith made honors even with 11 all. Sawyer net having scored from the 7th head. The game between Martin and Ponsford was remarkable fotr the sma'llncss of the scores throughout. On. the 6h?i head Martin’s rink led by 6 to 1, hut on !v had the lead of a bare point on the 14th head, b ing 10 to 9. Scoring then alternated, until the board showed 16 all on the 20th head. Ponsford got the shot on the last head, and won hie game. An even game was witnessed in the Craig-Simson match up to the 13th head ,when the score read 13 all. On the remaining hands Simso-u’s rin'k only scored twice, while points were rattled up bv their opponents. Gisborne thus won the first round in the Witty Pennant competition by six points.
