i Hobble-skirts have led to a serious labor disturbance 'at Northampton. The whole of the girls employed •■y the Brook Manufacturing Company, numbering 1,200, were locked out recently. The girls, owing to the introduction of the hobble skirt, and the consequent decrea.se in the demand for underskirts, have been (assigned to other work, ,u----which they declare they cannot earn a livng wage. The discontented 1 lianas went out on strike, and failing to reach a settlement, the firm declared a lockout. In the afternoon a meeting was held at which 000 girls joined the Federation of Women Workers, of which a branch was formed. At a meeting of the 1,200 Northampton hobble skirt strikers a majority of the girls held up hands in favor of returning to work.
