THE “ SEA SERPENT.”
HUNT ON THE MEDWAY FOR MONSTER WITH THE HUMP. Hunting for the monster of the which was first seen in the Medway, off Chatham Dockyard, on September 28th, is still going on. The creature lias taken on many fearsome aspecis, according to the fancy of the people who have seen it. One observer said it was “very .‘ije a whale.” According to the captain of a yacht, it is from twenty-five to tf->ty feet in length, pure white in color, and its hack tapers from a hump down i.o the tail. ‘ Very like a cowfish,” savs this authority. A local fisherman named Pocock aas the first to come across this strange creature. Ho tried to shoot it tut says the shot glided off its thick"hide. Next day Pocock charged liis gun with steel ball hearings out of a cycle, ar.d fired at tlie ‘ ‘serpent’s” head. Apparently the shot had some effect, tor the c: fish” moved quickly off down the river. Frequently since then the serfieutwhale ha 6 been seen, and boatmen have done good business in taking out sportsmen eager to get a shot at it.
