D RES'SMAKER ’ S TREACHEROUS REVENGE.
At a Paris court recently ia you tig dressmaker named Martha Leon was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment tor a. horribly treacherous outrage noun iier employer, a Madame Tachenet, wlmse establishment is in the Avenue <les JerneS'. From the evidence given at the trial it appeared that Mdlle. Leon was of a very nervous and irritah p disposition, and was occasionally •subject to attacks of neurasthenia, winch were so severe as ocasionally to deprive her of the power of speech, bhe caused much annoyance in the work-room, and finally Madame Tachenot had to discharge her. Several times the girl tried to obtain admittance to the shop, but ™ always refused. She tlien conceived a stratagem by which to effect her purpose. Buying a very handsome bouquet of flowers, she presented herself at the shop, ,and said she wished 1 to give it to Madame Tachenet and thank her for her kindness. Madame Taehcnet came forward to receive the flowers, and as she did so Mdlle. Leon threw the .’bouquet in her face. A bottle of hydrochloric acid concealed in the flowers was broken by the blow, and the unfortunate woman was badly burned about the face, neck, and hands by the acid. At the trial the girl appeared quite unable to realise the cruel- j ty and treachery of her act, and when sentenced seemed much more surprised than repentant.
