TUBANGAXVI CLUB

A star match in the Bennett Cup competition was played on the Turanganui green yesterday, the result being :

P. Gray 22 beat B. Hird (cluallcnger) 13. —Gray got the lead at the com-

mencement, and led by 11 to- 7 on the 7th head. Gray had the advantage in the remainder of the game, and ultimately won by nine points. —Licensed Victuallers’ Fours. —

Entries for the Licensed Victuallers’ Fours close on the Turanganui Club’s green this afternoon. NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By ’‘Toucher.”) As the date of the closing of entries for the big event in bowling circles in the North Island draws near, interest is being evinced on the local greens in the tournament, which takes , place ill Wellington early in January. Tims I may be pardoned for publishing the programme, etc., for the tournament. The conditions, etc., are as follow: —Prizes for the Tournament.— Champion Rinks.—First prize, four trophies of the value of £2 10s each, and certificates with the names of the winners engrossed thereon—one for each member of the winning rink and one for the club. Second prize, four trophies of the value of £2 each, and certificates with the names of the winners engrossed thereon. Last Try Match.—Four trophies to the value of £1 10s each. •

Consolation Prize.—Four trophies to the value of £1 Is each. Northern Bowling Association’s Banner and Shield.—This banner and shield will be given to the club whose rink wins the Rink Championship, if that club be affiliated to the Northern Bowling Association, hut if it be not affiliated then to the club affiliated to the Northern Bowling Association winning a final between the Club Rinks so affiliated—and will remain in possession of the club until the next tournament held under the auspices of the Association. —Synopsis of Play.—

Champion Rinks (21 heads.—Monday, first game start sat 9.0 a.m. ; Tuesday and Wednesday, first game starts at 9 a.m. ; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, second games starts 1.15 p.m., third game starts 4 p.m. ; Thursday, for those who have won a section or tie for first place, the synopsis of play similar to Tuesday and Wednesday; Friday, for those who win a section or fie for first place on Thursday’s play, first game will start at 9 a.m. and play will continue down to the final; lunch each dav 12 to 1; Saturday, final starts at 9 a.m.

Last Try (21 heads). —Friday, for those losing in section play of Champion Rink play on Thursday and Friday, first game will start at 9 a.m. and play will continue down to the final; lunch, 12 to 1; Saturday, Final starts at 9 a.m. Note.—All games in Champion Rink on Thursday and Friday, and games in Last Try on Friday, will he played oil the Wellington Green, Wordsworth Street.

Consolation (16 heads).—Thursday, first game starts at 8.45 a.m., second game starts at 10.40 a.m., third game starts at 1.15 a.m. ; lunch, 12 to i. A draw (section winners and those who tie for first place) will then take place on each respective green. First round finals starts at 3.15 p.m. Friday, second round finals starts at 9 a.m., play will continue down to the final; Saturday, final starts at 9 a.m. (21 heads). " Note.—All games in the Con. solation will be played on the Wellington Green. —Conditions.— Entrance fee, 15s per player, which covers the fee for all events that a player may be competing for during the tournament. Champion Rinks.— The Champion Rinks will, as far as possible, be played as follows:—Entries divided into sections oi ten rinks. Clubs entering more than one rink to have such l’inks equitably distributed throughout the sections! Nine games of 21 heads to be played—i.e., each rink to play every rink in its section, if possible. Section winners and ties for first place to be again formed into sections of four or more, and each rink to play every rink in its section, if possible. Then the winners and ties for first place shall play tiff on the sudden death principle, and the winner of the final to be declared the winner of the Rink Champion ship. Last Tr.v Prize.—For rinks defeated in Champion Rinks on Thursday ana Fr-. ’ay. This competition will be played on the sudden death principle, commencing on Friday morning. Rinks defeated in Champion Rink games ni Friday will automatically be chaffed into this comnetiiton. All games to be 21 heads. Consolation Prize.—For rinks v,1.0 fail to win or tie’for first place m section play of Champion Rinks on Mtndav, Tuesday and Wednesday. Play to commence on ’Thursday morning. Entries will be divided into sections of four or more, and three games of 16 heads to lie played. Section winners and those who tie for first place to play off on sudden death principle. Final game to be 21 heads. —General Conditions applying to all Matches.— 1. Entries close with the secretary of the Northern Bowling Association, at ’Wellington, on Monday, 18h December, 1911] and must be forwarded (accompanied by the fees) through the secretary of their club. 2. The rules of the Northern Bowling Association of New Zealand snail be observed during the tournament. 3. All competitors must lie mmbo/.s of a club that is affiliated to an association recognised by the Northern Bowling Association, and. must wear Gm colors of the club they are playing for, and each team must consist of n.-.-moers of the same club.

4. No changing of players will be allowed except in eases of illness or enforced absence from Wellington, in which case a substitute may be appointed by or subject to the approval of the skips engaged upon any green where the question arises. 5. Rule 12 of the Northern Bowling Association’s^Laws of the game will he strictly adhered to in regard to size, bias and testing of bonds. 6. Any dispute requiring immediate decision shall be adjudicated upon by the skips engaged upon the green where such dispute arises. Such decision shall he subject to appeal to the

Tournament Committee, whose decision shall be final.

7. The winning skip of each game is required, immediately on its conclusion to hand to the secretary or his appointee the score-card of the game signed by himself and his opposing skip. 8. The Tournament Committee shall have the right to vary the days of play, reduce the number of heads, and in others respects alter or amend the programme if circumstances will not permit the programme being carried out in its entirety. _ v 9. An umpire shall he appointed for each green. ■ 19. If any rink fails to be present at the proper time, the Committee may register a win against it by default. —Clubs Affiliated.— The following are the clubs affiliated to the Northern Bowling Association: —Auckland, Blenheim, Blue Hill, Carlton, Carterton, Dannevirke, Devonport, Eastbourne, Eltham, Epsom, Feilding, Featherston, Fitzroy, Foxton, Gisborne, Greenmeadows! Grey Lynn, Greytown North, Gonville, Hataitai, Hamilton, Hastings, Hawera, Hunterville, Hutt, Johnsonville, Karori, Kelburne, Khandallah, Maitai, Mania, Marton, Masterton, Mount Eden, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Newtown, Opunake, Onehunga, Otaki, Paliiatua, Palmerston North, Pate a, Petone, Picton, Pihama, Ponsonby, Remuera, Rocky Nook, St. John’s, Stratford, Takaka, Te Ran, Thorndon, Turanganui, Te Hiwi, Terrance End, Victoria, Waipawa, Wairoa, Wanganui, Waverley, Wellington, West End, Westport, Woodville. —Napier Tournament.— Entries for the rink tournament, which is to be held by the Napier Bowling Club on Monday and Tuesday, January 1 and 2, at Napier, close with Mr Wm. C. Yates, the secretary of the Napier Bowling Club, next Saturday, December 9. The entrance fee is 10s per rink, payable with entry. The tournament is open to all bowling clubs from Dannevirke to Gisborne. The prizes are—first, four gold medals; second, four pairs bowls.
