PERSONAL NOTES.
Mr E. J. Clirisp Avas a passenger for South by the s.s. Monowai last evening. By the boat for South last evening, a number of boxers avlio took part in i 1 e Gisborne Boxing Association’s Carnival last Aveek proceeded South. Among these were Messrs Jim and Jack Griffin. The latter meets Billy Cootes in a 55round contest at Greymouth on Boxing Day. Cootes defeated Jack Griffin on the last occasion on which they met;, but the latter is confident of turning the tables on Boxing Day. Mr Ike Fake, who acted as referee at the Gisborne Boxing Association’s Carnival last week, returned South by the Mrnowai last night. It is Mi* Fake’s intention to return and permanently settle in Gisborne in a few Aveeks’ time.
Mr J. King, of the firm of Messrs Nelson Bros., who has been spending a few days in Gisborne, _ returned South by the Monowai last night.
The Hon. A. T. Ngata was a passenger by the Tarawera, which _ left for Auckland on Saturday. It is understood that he intends visiting Te Puke and Tauranga during the present week. ■Colonel Cliaytor, who is the officer in command of the Wellington military district, arrived from the South on Saturday, accompanied by Sandtmann. He conferred with local' officers regarding mattesr to do with the territorial forces, and returned to Napier by last evening’s steamer. The Hon. Sir James Carroll, accompanied by his private secretary (Air W. I T. Gordon) left for South by the s.s. Monowai last evening to deliver a series of political addresses in the Ashburton and Selwyn electorates. The Native Minister will speak at Ashburton on Tuesday aud in the Selwyn electorate on Wednesday, and will also speak at j different centres in these two electorates before polling day. Air A. J. Paterson. Borough Engineer, left for Wellington last night in connection with the application for ••lie Order-in-Council for the town Section of th c Gisborne tramways.
