TUAHINE LIGHTHOUSE.
REPORT BY EXPERT. The light at Tualxino Point has been -giving some trouble recently, and at the last meeting of the Harbor Board the Chairmaw (Mr. J - Town ley) stated that he was getting a, report on the -matter from the Acetone Company’s expert. The report, which has been supplied by Mr. A. E. Hunt, of the Acetone Illuminating and AVeldiuig Company, is as follows:—
“On visiting the lighthouse I found one cylinder only connected, this showing a pressure of 1201bs. Flasher was giving a flash light, 2jjsec light, 61 sec dark. One valve, in double block was leaking at the rate of about one-third of a foot per hour. This latter and the alteration to tho light period of the flaslier would account for the one cylinder not lasting 40 days. The clock is not fitted with this apparatus. I have altered the flasher to periods of 2sec. light 6sec dark, tightened the leaky valve, leaving same sound, and a'so coupled two cylinders to double valve -block. The installation is now drawing its gas supply from two cylinders, and these should last 80 days. The two cylinders at present connected l should last 70 days from the date of my visit (Nov. 20). This on account of one cylinder being partly used and the pressure therefore having to he balanced off after coupling up. I should suggest that a periodical examination he made of the pressure gauge and a copy of the reading forwarded to the Board’s engineer, so that any leakage will make itself apparent-’ ’
