DRIVEN MAD BY FRIGHT.
GIRL WHO THOUGHT A FARMER WAS A GHOST.
The tragic circumstances under which a young servant girl on a farm at Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, was driven mad were related at a meeting of the Bo’ncss and Carridon Parish Council. The girl went to a well close to the farm for water late at night, and a farmer who was dressed in light clothing walked towards her. She thought that the man was a ghost, and became so frightened that she was rendered blind and her mind was unhinged. She regained her sight a few weeks afterwards, hut developed symptoms mentally, and had to he i©moved to an asylum, where she is now under treatment. It was stated that the girl previously showed no signs of ill-health, and the fright alone was responsible for her affliction.
