CABLE REDUCTIONS

Mr Herbert. Samuel, l’ostmaster-Gen-eral, in the House of Commons, announced a 50 poi cent reduction in the rates of uncoded public and press cable messages to Australia. Both would be liable to be deferred. The reduction on public messages commences on January Ist, and to the press immediately.
ANOTHER BATTLESHIP. H.M.S. Amphion. the sixth vessel of the Boadicea class, has been launched. A NEW BISHOP. The rector of Birmingham has been appointed Bishop of Sodor and the Isle of Man. A BARONET’S DEATH. Sir Henry Day Ingleby shot himself. He had undergone an operation and a second operation was impending. AERIAL FLEETS. BERLIN, Dec. 5. The War Office is testing the possibility of a fleet of airships carrying 300 men. A second ileet is to be built on the Zeppelin system. ONTARIO ELECTIONS. OTTAWA, Dec. 5.
For the Ontario elections there are seventeen uncontested seats. Whitney’s party is again certain to be returned. CANADIAN RECIPROCITY.
There is much disappointment in Canada through the failure to consummate reciprocity with Australia. The result of the Dominion elections is considered a step forward to reciprocity within the Empire. Australian reluctance to carry the progress further is rogretted. A GOVERNMENT CONTRACT QUESTIONED. The Government is planning an investigation of the contract for the Hudson Bay railway, let by the late Government prior to the dissolution. The present Government declares itself not satisfied that the best route has been secured. COMMERCIAL RELATIONS. BERLIN, Dec. 5.
'The Reichstag has passed a Commercial Relations Bill with tho British Empire. LA MILO’S CASE, LONDON, Dec. 5.
Percy Easton is suing Mr Wood, jeweller, for damages for malicious persecution in connection with the La Milo case in 1910 (obtaining jewellery by false pretences).
