RIDICULOUS STATEMENTS.
NEW ZEALAND FEELING AGAINST
AUSTRALIA
[united press association —copyright] PERTH, Dec. 6.
Recently an article by Mr Simmons, in charge of the Young Australia League of boys touring America, was supplied to the local press, stating there was strong antipathy shown by New Zealanders to Australians, evidence of which, he observed during the hoys’ stay at Wellington. Sir William Russell, who is returning to New Zealand by the Mooltan, being interviewed, declared that it was all nonsense. The only feeling entertained towards Australia was one of cordiality and goodfellowship. New Zealanders had an intense love of their country, but to say they despised Australians in the Dominion was ridiculous. The only real fact in Mr Simmons’ statement was that New Zealanders, in their speech and mannerisms, were more English than were Australians.
