A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION.

MRS G. SMITH’S GARDEN PARTY

The garden party held at Mr G. Smith?s residence “Bor-won” yesterday in aid of the funds of the school children’s picnic being Organised by me Bible Teachers’ Association was highly successful.

During the afternoon Miss Rees road tho following telegram from Sir James Carroll:—“I hope good weather and every success will attend the fete so faithfully provided for the school children of Gisborne to-day as the children attend our future national good and everything done to develop and thoroughly equip them for the battle of life is to us another stone to the sculpture of our great empire. I much) regret that it was impossible for me to remain in Gisborne to take part in contributing to the enjoyment of all our youngest generation on this occasion.—Kia ora, J. Carroll.” Those who so much enjoyed the function were responsible- to Mrs Smith and Miss Rees for tho splendid organisation and to the following for their untiring service in other directions— Misses McManaway and Church (2). Mcsdames Mackay, Sidebottom, Thomas, Lentill, Cat-ton, T. A. Crawford, and Church, a-ncL Messrs G. Smith and F. T. Robinson. Dainty afternoon tea and delicious iices wore served, and wore gjrieatlv appreciated. Launches plied on the river all the afternoon, and carried many passengers. A Dutch auction was conducted by Mr A. S. Waclismann, and all articles offered were strongly competed for. Sweet music was discoursed by Messrs Vita Bros, orchestra, and by members of both Salvation Army and City bands.
