! BRITAIN’S BIG NAVAL LOAN
. PRESERVING THE TWO-TO-ONE STANDARD. The “.Pall Mali Gazette” claims to have recevied confirmation of the report that tho Government intends to raise a loan of £30,000,000, and possibly more, 1 with which to supplement the usual na v« 1 estimates.
It is argued, in view of the German campaign for a bigger navy, that it ib necessary that Britain should show her determination to preserve the two-to-one standard.
'Hie estimates provide for the Construction of n«w docks for the superDreadnoughts. The executive committee of the Navy Longue at a meeting towards the end of last year adopted a resolution advocating the laying down, as a minimum, of two capital ships to every one commenced hy the next strongest naval Power, and the maintenance of the proper complement of men, vessels of other classes, stores, and armaments. Another resolution reecommonded that the expenditure should be met hy a naval loan if it should 1 prove to be necessary to adopt the course.
