PETROL ALIGHT.
TRAIN ENGINE RUSHES FOR
WATER
f PER I’ll ESS ASSOCIATION.]] GORE, Dec. 9
A somewhat exciting incident was witnessed at the Gore railway yard yesterday, when a shunting engine was seen racing at a tremendous speed to the water tank, one of the attached trucks being on fire. It transpired that the truck contained cases of petrol, one of which was evidently leaking, and a spark from the engine set the truck afire. At the water tank water was applied to the truck, witli the. effect only of spreading the flames. Ultimately these were extinguished by' shovels of gravel and sand. There was practically no damage, hut if the other trucks had of caught there was a strong irascibility of a dangerous explosion.
