The Summer Aleeting of the Woodville Jockey Club started to-day, under very unfavorable weather conditions. Rain started at 11 o’clock and when the first race started it was coming down in sheets. Rain continued during the first three races, and then the sky cleared and the sun shone brightly, but a heavy wind blew for the remainder of the afternoon. The attendance was satisfactory, but greatly affected by the rough weather. Since last meeting a lot of improvements have been made in the course, which were appreciated by the public. The silent tote was used for the first time, and the sum of £7172 was put through, which is over £IOOO more than for the corresponding day last year. The results : Alaiden Scurry.— Afr J. George’s Royal Arms 1, Alira 2, Matlaw 3. King's Favorite led for the greater part of the journey, but when well in the straight was challenged by Royal Anns and Alira, but the former went to the front and won easily by two lengths. Time, lmin 18 4-ssec. Shortly after the start Alatlaw fell, but the rider and horse escaped injury. Scratched —Harekoa, Afiss Roberts, Ohine, Aliriam, Ladienc, NuCeylon Hack Hurdles.—Air E. G. Rathbone’s S truth moira 1, /All Trumps 2. Won by two. lengths, with a half-length between, second and third. Time, 3min 34 4-5 sec. Scratched—Cullinan, Puketotara, Royal Patron. Grand Stand Hack. —Mr M. J. Goodson’s Jargon 1. Alelalogue 2, Overheard 3. Aleremere led for most of the journey, but in the straight the placed horses fought the battle out, leaving Jargon an easy winner by a couple of lengths. Time, lmin 34see. Scratched —Attention, Ladrone, Adare, Pulcewai, Royal Arms, Cornelian, Alatlaw, Plantation, Tuahaliie.
Woodville Handicap. —Air M. Lavery s British Maid 1, Voetgang 2, Coromandel 3. British Maid took possession at the •start and led the field right home, winning by two lengths. Time, 2min 14 4-ssec. Scratched: Equitas, Effort, Sea Pink, Royal Marine, San Lass. Flying Hack Handicap:—Mr P. W. Scully’s Florence Nightingale 1, Taft 2, Turna 8. Taft and Crown Pearl led right into the straight, where Taft assumed command, and was challenged by Florence Nightingale. These two raced together to within a few yards of the post, when the little mare forged ahead and won by a good length. Time, lmin 20sec. Scratched: Makar a, Herein ere, Melalogue, Wild Lupin, Ebonite, Sanguinary, Wilbanks, Sir Donald, Plantation, Lord Kilclieran, Lord Palmer. Borough Handicap.— Air H. Hodge’s Splash 1, Midnight Sun 2, Cork 3. After the start Seaton Dale led for a couple of furlongs, then Alidniglit Sun went to tjie : front and looked all over a winner. Splash came through and won by a good length. Time, lmin 30sec. Scratched—Effort, • Master Sylvia, Con the Shaugliran, Starboard, Rayol Marine, AVaiorua, Queen of Scots, Remissness.
Welter Hack.—Mr J. McCarthy’s Plantation 1, Sir Knox 2, Loch Mabin 3. The horses were well bunched until some distance down the straight; when Plan-
tation asserted himself and won, by tiyo lengths, with a Length separating second and third. Time, lmin 50 2-ssec. Scratched—Otahu, Fleet Week, Mira, Waikaho, Harekoa, Allure. y Electric Handicap.—Mr D. Buick's Gold Battery 1, Master Sylvia 2, Bow Bolls 3. Taft led tho field most of the distance, when Gold Battery and Master Sylvia led and raced home neck and neck, tho former getting the verdict by a head, the third horse two lengths away. Time, lmin 4|sec. Scratched— Naumai, Gladiole, Sea Queen, Khnmsin, British Maid, Hinekorangi, Overtime, Moree.
