HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE

[per press association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. The High Commissioner’s cable, dated London, December 12th, states: —For eggs prices a.re firm for new-laid, otlierwise the market is dull, with a downward tendency. There is a large supply. Per 120; Home 16s 6d to 28s. Russian 7s 6d to 10s, Italian 14s to 16s, Danish 16s to 19s, Australian 8s 3d to 12s, Dutch 13s 6d to 225, French 14s to 19s. The poultry market is quiet, but firm. Chickens, Home 7d to 9d per lb, Russian 7-Jd to 8!<!; ducklings, Home 7d to 8)d; turkeys. Home 9d to Is, Continental 7d to 8-)-d, French 8d to 9J-d. The bacon market is quiet and steady. There is a fair demand at rates named below. Sides, Irish 50s to 60s per cwt., Continental 48s to 58s, Canadian 48s to 545, American 48s to 545. Hams: The market is quiet ; small business is doing in the large size, and smaller sizes are scarce. Irish 78s to 120 s j>er cwt, English 90s to 112 s, Canadian o6s to 575, American 52s to 625.

Messrs Williams and’ Kettle have received the''following advice from their London agents: Wool sales have closed, market firm for all, grades, . prices .ruling for good, clean samples:—Half-bred 56’s Is l£d (advance ; fine crossbred, 50’s, Is (advance |d); medium coarse crossbred, 46’s, 11 {rd (advance Id) ; medium coarse crossbred, 46’s, llid, (advance Id); medium coarse erssbred, 44’s, lOid (advance id); coarse crossbred, 40’s, 10d ‘(advance id); coarse crossbred, 36’s, 9'icU (par). Comparison with the’ closing- prices'of last'series is shown in brackets.”
