PATHE PICTURES.
Founded on the Rev. E. P. Roe’s famous book of the same title the. man-, agemeut of the Pathe Pictures to-night screen for the first time in Gisborne a'film: telling the story- “Barriers Burned Away.” The facts as they are adapted in the film are briefly as follow. John 1 and Edward Martin, two ■ brothers, occupy each with his own family a ’ double* house and their home arrangements are ideal. Each one of the brothers has a child and these are playmates. The > wives also are the closest of friends. Everything- is harmonious when, like a flash of lightning some slight difference of opinion arises between the wives, which leads to the severance of the happy relations of the two families, except the two children who fortunately cannot grasp the importance of it all," and consequently remain in blissful ignorance. One day while they are. playing together the children set fire to a barrel of rubbish in’front of an old bam and it is here that the drama commences in real earnest. The exciting events with which the story is drawn to a close are .enacted in a vigorous and convincing .manner, and the film should be- much favored. Another promising nuinuber is that entitled “The Wife’s Awakening," which delineates the tale of a misunderstanding mud how the. parties .in it .became reconciled. In “Cupid’s’ Chafifeur” will be found an interesting'light comedy,, in which the lover plays.chaffeur to ..the girl of his heart and her objecting father, running them in among his friends, who act the part of bold highwaymen in order to give him the opportunity of playing the hero and rescuer.’ The old man relents, and the couple win his blessing on the spot. —Christmas Night.— <As a result of special arrangements made some little time ago the management will screen a scenic sacred ' programme of pictures Monday evening. The various items, which comprise sacred, scenic, industrial and dramatic depictions, have been selected with assiduous care and a high standard of excellence is guaranteed. j On Tuesday evening the best items of both programmes will be combined and presented. From a survey of both selections it is reasonable to assume that on this occasion the evening entertainment will be most enjoyable.
