KANGAROOS’ TOUR.
NOT A FINANCIAL FAILURE.
SUBSTANTIAL PKOFIT ASSURED
The tour of the Kangaroos will not be a financial failure, as was expected. On the contrary, everything points to success, and it is anticipated that When the team returns to Australia l the bal-ance-sheet will show a credit of several thousand pounds. A cable; received by Mr. E- Larkin, the secretary of the New South Wales Rugby League, stated that the team’s share of the receipts to date amounted to £4500, While the expenses in England so far were £1560. The initial expense' borne by the League, which included the return boat fares, the players’ allowances, and the outfits, was in the vicinity of £3OOO, and consequently the figures of the first half of the tour show that its financial success is assured. The misgivings that arose m the minds of the officials olf the League were caused by the repeated cables to the press 1 regarding poor gates. Of course, th<w were prepared for substantial less, and consequently the news of the probability of there being a profit is more than gratifying. ■ , , . , , Less than £3OOO will be required to meet expenses now, and; there are still 16 matches to be played. Averaging the takings of those games on the receipts of the 23 matches already played, th© gross receipts of the tour work out in the vicinity of £7500.
