JUNIOR, v. SENIOR REPS. Tlie following team will represent tnc seniors in the match against the junior representatives at Victoria Domain on New Year’s Day T. Atkinson, WGibson, M. Guthrie, R. G. Hallamore, H. Jones, S. Lyndon, L. McMahon, McConnell, H. Whyte, A. E. Wood, and H. Maude. Any of the above players who are unable to take part in the match are requested to notify Mr W. Gibson to-day, in order that their places may be filled. Play will commence at 10.15 a.m. sharp. THE TEST MATCHES. ! ENGLAND CANNOT BEAT AUSTRALIA. 'FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. 3 The “Wafers” and Sydneyites who are not otherwise employed are rolling up in their thousands to see the kangaroo romp over the lion at cricket. Which, translated into the vernacular, means that, up to the present, the visiting M.C.C. team has failed in showing that it has a “Buckley’s show” against the pick of Australia. In all departments of the game, so far, “our boys” have shown their superiority. The Englishmen, however, are playing under depressing circumstances. Their captain, Warner, who is compelled to return to England through illness, was a tower of strength. Gunn, their next best player, though he is playing, has not yet fully recovered from the injury to his hand, a fact which must tend to seriously impair his confidence. And in cricket, confidence counts for as much as skill, if not for more. On their own wickets,_ in their own climate, and playing their best men, the M.C.C. would doubtless make a better showing. But, even under these conditions the kangaroo has beaten them, and will doubtless do it again. At the present showing, the first test match looks an easy win for Australia, though Clem Hill may have to dose the innings before it is finished in order to make sure of victory.
