BOWLING NOTES.
(B.v “Toucher.”!>
' The event of tlie week, in local bowling circles has been the tournament on thaw,Gisborne green. It was a great success, and redounded greatly to the credit of those members of the Gisborne Club who inaugurated the gathering- Good contests were the order of tlie day, and the: winning rink, Messrs ! Paltridge; Ambridge, ' Simson and Ponsford ,are' to be congnatulatecl on their victory. It is to be hoped: that this Christmas tournament will become a fixture, the venue alternating between the Gisborne and Turanganui greens;- the younger club, to take tlie: responsibility next year of running the, tournament. . . So far only one section in the Licensed Victuallers’ • Pairs of the Gisborne Club have completed their games, the winning pair of the section being Robertson’s, with 7 wins and no losses. The final on the Turanganui green for the Cope Feathers was a vo;y interesting one to the half-way ,10.11 b, but in the latter half Nasmith’s link completely outplayed their epnovmis. On Saturday afternoon the timers. D. B. McSkimming. IV. Hay, J. Bennett, and M. G. Nasmith, juniv, were presented with the feathers. A good game was that witnessed in the semi-final of tlie Hird Pairs on the Turanganui green last week, when Jeune’s pair defeated Neill’s pair. It was a splendid shot 0f.... Jeune’s that won him the game. On their showing Uridge and Jeune are to be reckoned with in the final. The Bennett Cup competition on the Turanganui igreen still maintains, interest. At the present time Wootton and Sawver have 11 wins each,, and Martin, ‘.Thelwall and Gray 7 wins each. The first round in the Licensed Victuallers’ Fours lias been commenced on the Turanganui green. The date of closing the round lias, on account of the Christmas tournament, been extended to Saturday, January 6th. There have been instances in New Zealand of players failing to score, but they are very few and far between. A game was played on the Turanganui_ green tlie other afternoon, when a rink was 2S to nil at the completion. The local bowlers who take part in the Napier tournament leave, for Napier to-morrow afternoon. Three rinks go from the Gisborne Club and one from Turanganui. Tlie Napier Chib’s committee are busily engaged working out tlie preliminaries for tlie tournament. and given anything like decent weather success seems assured. The teams hate been, divided into four sections, two playing at Napier, and the other two at Greenmeadows. If there are any ties in the sections, the committeel have reserved the right to leducec the number of heads. This will be absolutely necessary if finality is to be reached in the two days.
