Mr. Askwilh, mediator in the Lancashire cotton workers’ dispute, opens separate conferences of the masters and men at Manchester. The mood of the operatives have been less marked, and indications .are that both sides are more ready for a settlement. It is suggested that the weavers should withdraw from the position regarding non-unionists and the masters should concede 5 per cent advance, it is pos-iblo that the conflict will result in the weaving trade securing a eomprehen-ive ''barter similar to the spinners at Brocklands. By agreement three non-unionists were given a week’s wage's instead of notice at Preston-
