AUXILIARY MENTAL HOSPITAL.

TPER PRESS ASSOCIATION-] AUCKLAND, Jan. 5. The Public Works Department is inviting fresh tenders for the erection of an auxiliary mental hospital at Point •Chevalier, near the -existing asylum. It is understood that the scheme provides for an additional 300 patients, and medical officers’ quarters. The Department considered the question o-t erecting a temporary building 80ft by 40i't in the grounds t-o relieve the present overcrowding, but-, owing to the cost and other difficulties, decided to go in for a comprehensive scheme. NAPIER TRADE. NAPIER. January 5. The value of imports for the four quarters last year totalled £471,346, an increase of £86,726 compared with the previous twelve months. A youth, Arthur Reginald Boyd, was committed for trial to-day for forging the name of Herbert Welch to a cheque for £lO and uttering the same to William Harvey. ILLEGAL LIQUOR SALE. WELLINGTON, Jan. 5. As a result of raids during the Christmas and Now Year holidays, Arthur Robinson and Arthur Stevens were each fined £2O and costs, or a month's imprisonment, for illegally selling liquor. Two others accused of being found on the premises where liquor had been illegally sold were also fined. Several other cases were adjourned.

ALLEGED ROBBERY. BLENHEIM. January 5. In regard to the burglary at Clouston’s bond, James Bremer, contractor, and John Wilson, Wm. Stevenson, and •James iHavdon, seamen on the steamer Blenheim,'were brought up at the Police Court to-day on charges of breaking and entering. Frank Campbell mas charged with being in possession of stolen goods. -Accused' were remanded until Janury 13th, bail of £IOO each being allowed.
