FAi 11E-W El xL .A IE E TIX GS - The meetings of the Salvation Army yesterday took the form of farewells to Adjutant and Airs Melksha-m (who have been transferred to take charge oi the Salvation Army Avork in Palmerston North) and to Capt. Copp (w ho has been transferred to Whihi). The services were well attended all day. In* the evening the barracks were packed to the doors. This meeting also took the form of a memorial meeting to a comrade Salvationist, Sister Wier, who was buried last Monday. Sister Holloway and Bro. Sawyer, who have labored in tho work of Christ with the late Sister, spoke eulogising her sterling Christian character. The hand played wr.y feelingly the Dead March, the whole congregation standing. Bro. Mead sang a-solo entitled “Shadows” very impressively. Airs Afelksham also sang with good effect “No Tears in Heaven.” Captain Copp very feelingly spoke Avoids of farewell. He had, lie said, enjoyed 1 vis; stay in Gisborne, where lie had endeavored to do his Alaster's will. He urged upon all that* if it were not their privilege to meet again on this earth, let Them strive to meet around the throne of God. Adjutant Melksham, avlio first of all spoke in loving remembrance of the late Sister Wier. and urged: upon all to live as she had lived, trusting in God, “who dbeth -all things Avell,” took as his text Cor. xiii, 2: ‘'Finally brethren, farewell.” He spoke A'ery feelingly of his stay in the Gisborne corps, and' thanked the friends and comrades avlio had stood by him and had helped him Avhikt stationed, here. He bespoke the same loyalty for his successor, Adjt. Marshall, Vho is expected to- arrive during the week. . . . Ensign Baker, who is on a visit to Gisborne from Queensland, also spoke during the evening. The prayer ‘meeting was entered into by singing,, “We shall all meet again.” During the evening the band played a splendid selection entitled ■•. Farewell,” which was very nicely rendered. IMPORTANT CHANGES IN PERSONNEL/- ' [per tress association.] AVELLINGTON, Jan.' 6. Important changes in the personnel of the Now Zealand staff of the Salvation Army are announced in view of the severance of the Dominion from Australian control in Army affairs. Colonel Birkenshaw becomes commander in Sydney, Province-Major Johnson (Colonel 1 Birkensha-w’s secretary) goes with him. Major Carmichael has been appointed provincial commander for the newly-constituted Wellington province. Auckland is created a. separate province, with 25 corps, Brigadier -Yin (Bathurst) being commander. 'Brigadier Gist, of West Australia, takes command of the Christchurch province.. Brigadier Jago (New South Wales) takes command of Dunedin.
