TUR AN GAN UI 5 WINS' 4 LOSSES. (.SPECIAL TO TIMES.j . WELLINGTON,. Jan. 10. Tlie weather was splendid for the third day of the bowling tournament On the "Wellington green Craig beat Bull (Napier), rather easily, but had a- hard game to play against Parata (Te Hiwi), which lie iron, however, by four or five points. The game against McIntosh (Onelumga), was a fine one, and the finish exciting. At one stage of the o-anie Craig's rink led by 20 to 12, but Macintosh'’s rink recovered tlie position on the last few heads, and drew level with 23 all on the 21st head. The extra head was exciting, Mclntosh with his last bowl cut out Craig’s shot bowl, and lay the one necessary to .win. Craig however, with a lovely draw, drew the shot, and won tlie game amidst the greatest excitement. All the players left their games to watch the finish of the game, and rounds of applause and cheering greeted Craig’s shot. By winning this game Craig’s rink . went through and won their section without a loss. Webb (Wellington) is second with 8 wins 1 loss. Tlie “Dominion” thus refers to Craig’s win against Webb: “Webb, the m an who was pleased % but not proud, to win the Wellington Centre’s tournament, and who is one of the Wellington Club’s most consistently good skips, received a rough handling by Craig, of Gisborne, in the first round yesterday morning. Tlie Gisborne four played a rattling good game, and should be heard of towards the finish.” Tlie Turanganui rink, skipped by Nasmith, lias done well for its Club; in fact tlie best the Club has- yet achieved at the big tournaments. They c-ame out with five wins, and four losses. This morning they met Southgate (Petone) in the "first- game, and were right off form, losing bv 28 to S. In the next game they‘met Reid (Masterton). Masterton rattled up the score in the early stages, being 11 to nil on the 4th head and 17 to 2 on the 10th head. Nasmith’s rink them steadily began) to overhaul their opponents, and on the 20th head wore 17 to Masterton’s 20. On the 21st head Nasmith lay one, hut 1 with his last bowl he sprung the jack to the side, lay three, and tied. In the extra head Nasmith lay one when the skips went down. With his first Nasmith rested the second shot through and lay three, and with his other faced his opponent’s other bowl, laying five. Reed drove with his two bowls and missed, and Nasmith won l>v five points, 25 to 20. In their last game Nasmith’s rink had an easy victory over Anderson (Stanley) by 25 to 15. The members of the team played well in these two games. Referring to the Payne-Nasmitb finish the New Zealand Times says: “There was a very exciting finish to tlie game between Nasmith, of Turanganui, and Payne, who led the Caledonian team. The latter, resplendent in. royal blue blazers, with the Scottish ' Lion rampant. It was a tic on the 20th head, and Payne’s lead got on the jack in the final. Thereafter he used every bowl of bis team to block. Williams, with a raking shot, took three
blocking bowls out, and, although Payne got both his in-the way, there was still an opening left, Nasmith with his last bowl cleverly picking out the shot,-and taking the game.” Tlie Consolation Fours commence' tomorrow, and this; evening the bowlers are being entertained at an “'at home in the Wellington Bowling Club’s pavillion.
