increased pay for second DIVISION. ■' ' [per press association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 15. At a meeting of the Cabinet on Saturday, the Government decided to pay members of the second, division of the railway service a minimum wage of 9s per day. This, affects, in the traffic branch 956 porters, 12 watchmen, and 44 crossing-keepers; in the locomotive branch 350 laborers, and in the maintenance branch 1900 surfacemen and la,borers. In addition a further sum of £15,000 was authorised' to men in receipt of 9s and over whose duties are of a more important nature, and wh'o are at present only in receipt of a. slight advance in pay of men at 8s and Ss 6d. The rates of wages to workmen on railway construction works and engaged in the Public Works Department have also been increased to 9s a day.
