SAN FRANCISCO SERVICE

AN EARLY RESUMPTION. BY OIL BURNING VESSELS. [PER, PUEBS ASSOCIATION.'7 AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. The “Herald’s” San Francisco correspondent states that as the result of an interview between Mr. Taft and an Oceanic representative, it is announced that the United States Government will pay a mail subsidy of two dollars a mile to the line to carry mails from San Francisco to New Zealand and Australia, via Honolulu and Pagopago. This ensures the resumption of the San Francisco service by the Ventura and Sonoma, refitted as oil burners. It is expected the vessels will be ready in June.
