LAND BOARD.

ADJOURNED MEETING. The meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board, adjourned from the 12th inst., was resumed yesterday morning. Mr. C. R. Pollen (Commissioner of Crown Lands, presided, and there were also present, Messrs G. Wright, E. Lane, and R. M. Birrell. TRANSFERS. The following applications for transfers were granted:— Hold Tooko to Ernest McDowell, R L.S. 72 , section 5, block IX., Turanganui S.D., Te Aral Settlement. . Mr. J. R. Kirk, with Mr. H. Hei, appeared for the applicant and .stated that the grounds for the transfer were sickness, and loss through floods m 1910, which made it impossible for the holder to carry.on. . A . The Commissioner pointed out tliat there was a deficiency of £505 on the improvements which should have been McDowell appeared before the Board and undertook to see that the full value of improvements were carried out within a reasonable time. The application was then recommended for approval. An application by J. H. Smith transfer R.L.O. 109, section 28, Block V. Turanganui S.D., Te Aral Settlement, to A. S. Gibson, was recommenced subject to the ruling of five years residence and doctors’ certificates as jo ill-health being obtained -In application from A. C. Williams to transfer O.R.P. 240, section 1 blocic IX., Ngatapa S.J)., to A. and W. r». Black, was granted. The following applications for transfer were also granted: j B. and C. J. Pickard to IT. L. Twistleton, O.R.P. 259, Section 1, Block 11. Urautawa East S.D. G. P. Cobbett to G. E. M. Spence, S.G.It. 132, Run 95, Tuahu S.D. J. Davies to W. H. Adair, Education reserve, 177, Section 2, Block 1., Uru taw«ii East S.D. OTHER BUSINESS. \n application from Mrs L. R. Baker to have O.R.P. 461, Section 1, Block 111. Kangaroo. S.D., brought under Section, 127 of the Lands Act, 1908, was received. . . , . , The Commissioner pointed out time if the application was granted, the Board would be deluged with similar applications from Jvgatapa and otlioi Government settlements. After discussion, on the motion of Mr Lane, seconded ,by Mr. Birrell, it was decided to grant one year’s remission or rent. . The Commissioner voted against the motion, stating that he was strongly opposed to granting such applications, unless there were special circumstances, such as sickness, to recommend them. The Waiapu County Council submitted a. scheme for the expenditure of •‘Thirds” and “Fourths” amounting to £ll3 Is 9d, and an amended scheme for the expenditure of £233 8s Id from a similar source, both of which were approved. . The Waikolm County Council also submitted a scheme for the expenditure of “Thirds” and ‘Fourths,” amounting to £IOB Is Id. which was likewise approved ■ '■ „ An application from 'the Waikohu County Council to have “Thirds” and ■‘Fourths” accrued from Sections 1 and 2. Block 1., Ngatapa, Run 91, Moamn, and unselected acres in Blocks VIII., and XIV, Motu, and 1. and 11., Ngatapa. hypotliocated as interest and sinking fund on the Matawei —label a loan, was approved. A. report from the Commissioner was received to the effect that .Airs Olivia Anne Falk nor had been the successful purchaser of lease for 21 years j>f Education reserves, sections 4 and 5, blocks VI and VII., Ngatapa S.D., 561 acres at tlie auction held on Saturday last. L. C. Break well was granted leave to acquire the freehold of O.R.P. section 0, block VI., Mangatoro S.D. 11. JTolderness was allowed 60 days’ extension of time for registration of transfer in connection with L.S. 418, suction 9, block V., AVaipukurau. A form of lease of Education reserves which' had been forwarded to the Lands Department for approval, was received back from the Under-Secretary for Lands for further consideration. It was decided to retain one or two minor clauses which had been struck out. It, was reported that drainage work at Te Arai Settlement had been coniine need.
