WILL NEW ZEALAND FEDERATE?

COMMONWEALTH PREMIER SAYS YES. SETS TIME DOWN AS TWENTY YEARSDEFENCE AGREEMENT WITHIN FIVE YEARS.

[UNITED PRESS ASSO TATION —COPYRIGHT] (Received Jan. 22, 12.20 a- m -) MELBOURNE, Jan. 22. Mr. Fisher takes an optimistic view of the prospect of New Zealand eventually forming a part of the Australian Federation. Within five years' he thinks he thinks there will be an agreement between the Commonwealth and the Dominion on defence, . and _ within 20 years Now Zealand may join the Federation. He does not wish to be definite as to incorporation of the Dominion with the Commonwealth, or the nature of any junction. Any period may elapse before, this is accomplished, but he sets down twenty years as a speculative indication. Many politicians here think that with the Labor party seeking to force the pace towards unifiication, the probabilities of New Zealand forming a political compact have become practically more remote.
