DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. [PER 3*RESS ASSOCIATION• ] ’DUNEDIN, Jan. 23. At the wool sales, over 20,000 bales were catalogued, comprising most of the best-known Otago clips. The demand for all descriptions was exceedingly keen, especially in the Continental section, the market tending to harden, especially for wools suited to America. The advance in some cases was quotable at id per lb, and the record v price of 131 d was secured for nine bales of merino grown by Mr Richard Mitchell, of Waipori. RECORD PRICE OBTAINED.

, The second wool sale of the season was <: held , to-day-,* when. 21,302 bales ' were - affered. , There was a large gathering of buyers, Bradford, Continental, American and N.Z. woollen mills being strongly represented. Bidding was very spirited tor all descriptions of wool. The greater part of the total of the . catalogue -was sold under the hammer almost.satisfactory prices. As compared'with' the" December sale prices" were* all round about a half-penny better. The catalogues included some of, the most _ noted* clips- in Otago, all of which were in ;really splendid condition. Owing to the rainy season, wool from some of. the high country stations in the South was in very light condition and consequently, just what was required for the. American trade, whose representatives showed their appreciation of it by : bidding with great, vigor. Certain of the wools . were tender and these the Americans left severely alone. The: record price for the season in N.Z, was paid at-.this ?sale, namely,- 13Jd. for nine bales of merino wether. .
