MEETING OF EXECUTIVE,

Tlie Band Contest executive met at tile Cosmopolitan Club last evening, Mr J. Town ley was voted, to the chair in tlie absence of the\ Mayor. ' On the motion of _Mr .J. Webb, seconded by Air G. Smith, it was decided to send a letter of condolence to the widow of the late Mr. E. J. Spurdle in her recent sad bereavement. The military Committee Majors Beere and Evans) reported' as follows; The marching contest regulations provide for tlie appointment of the following : -Four military judges, one assistant pace-counter, a judge of instruments, and a timekeeper. In addition it would probably be advisable to appoint a marshal. They recommended the following. officers for the four inilitarv judges: Oapt. Hamilton. Lieut. Coleman, Lieut. Spragg and Major Beere; also Major Evans as marshal. The assistant pace-counter, under rule 1, had to be appointed by the competing bands when they drew for the order of playing. Tlie executive had already appointed Messrs Foster and Webster as judges of instruments, but rule 15 provider! that the inspecting officer, who was one of these, was to appear in uniform, -so that some adjustment would be required here. The timekeeper was appointed by tlie Association. The report was adopted, and it was decided to carry out the suggestions. . Mr Blloore reported on behalf of the Grounds Committee that they. had arrangedl with th e Borough Engineer regarding the erection of a bandstand, and the supplying of electric light at the Domain. Tlie committee, he thought, should meet to make arrangements for gatekeepers. The following were appointed a reception committee : —Tlie Mayor, chairman of the Harbor Board, chairman of the County Council, and chairman of the Chamber of. Commerce. It was decided to write to the Borough Council asking them to declare a half-holiday from noon on February 15th. The secretary stated that the Newtown Band would not attend the contest. and this loft seven baiids, including the Gisborne Band. It was decided that season tickets should include admission to the stand. Mesdames Beere, Scott and Stevenson were appointed a ladies’ committee.
