SHORTAGE OF CLERCY.

CRY FOR MORE MEN BY BISHOP OF AUCKLAND. [per press associationJ NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 26. Dr. Crossley, in instituting the Rev. A. H. Colville to the living of St. Mary’s, asked where he was going to find clergy. The diocese had lost five vicars and vacancies had to be filled from their own ranks, and he didn’t know how long this unfortunate drain would go on. He complained that some graduates at St.. John’s College were qualifying blit did not serve. Funds were wanted without delay. The diocese wanted two men each year from St. John’s for 3 years to come. New Plymouth, he said, was an ideal training ground for curates, which could absorb three additional men. He recommended the envelope system for New Plymouth. -The Rev. F. G. Evans was appointed archdeacon for Taranaki.
