DROWNED IN SWIMMING BATH

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 28

James Berwick, twenty-four years or age, laborer, was swimming in Dunsandel bath with a companion Chidley, who was endeavoring to reach him with the side stroke. Afterwards Chidley swam to the shallow end of the bath and a little later saw that Borwick was evidently in trouble in tbe deeper water. He was waving bis arms and beating the water as though he could tnot keep himself up. Chidley sank to tht bottom and was drowned. The body was got out and attempts made to restore respiration for about an hour and a half, but unsuccessfully. Borwick was a Scotsman, and arrived about three years ago.
