NOTES. Julian, who won the President's Handicap at Foxton last week, is a four-year-old gelding by Merriwee— Maxima, by The Possible—J ulia, a halfsister to Martini-Henry, A chestnut gelding called Nukuao lias had a fairly lengthy record of racing down at the Chatham Islands. Ho first started as a two-year-old in 1900, and has run every year since. This year he won the cup for the third time and it is said that lie lias been very rarely further than a second in any race in which he has started. Witn a 101 b penalty he won the Ladies’ Purse after taking the Cup . The Formosan mare Goodform, who won the Maiden Scurry in such a convincing manner at the recent Foxton meeting, has done duty for six mourns between the shafts of a cab at Palmerston North. Tommy Mussen, who does riding work for G Murray- Aynsloy at Riccarton, is said to he the most diminutive Lad so engaged in the Dominion Ins weight being not much over four stone. We have one or two riding in the North Island who are not exactly giants, notably Kemp and A. G. Reed. Winning Way, who ran off the course while taking part in the Wellington Stakes at Trentliam last week, behaved in a similar manner in the Wellesley Stakes on the same course last- October. As a coincidence it is worth noting that each of these races was won by Ermengarde. Waiouru, who won the Newmarket Handicap at Foxton last week, is a seven-year-old gelding by Conqueror— Marionette, and is therefore a fullbrother to Motoa, who finished second to Penates in the Winter Cup at Riecarton in 1908 and who has done good service lately for D. J. Price’s stable in Victoria. The principal winning owners at the recent Wellington meeting were; “Air Highden,” £1325; Mr W. Smart, £760; Sir G. Clifton!. £675; Mr. E. ,J. Watt, £595; Air. J.
