GISBORNE RACING CLUB.

CONCLUDING DAY. SUBLIME WINS A DOUBLE. Beautiful weather again favored the Gisborne Racing Club for the. concluding day of their .summer meeting. Tliere was a fairly large attendance and speculation was again brisk, the sum of £8899 going through the totalisator, against £6621 for the corresponding day last year. The total for the meeting was £17,773, compared with £13,296 last year. The arrangements were very satisfactory, and Mr Dodd, the secretary, carried out liis duties excellently. The racing was very interesting throughout, and this was- due in no small measure to the handicapper (Mr J. Chadwick). Mr A. G. Wood the staiter, despatched the fields excellently. Altogether the meeting was a most enjoyable one. Results:— SECOND HANDICAP HURDLES of 80 sovs: second horse to receive 10 sovs and third 5 sovs from stake. One mile and three-quarters:— 1. J. R. Lucas’ hr g Continuance, by Sabretache —Chibouk, 6yrs., 13.10 (W. Young) ... 1 2. R. G. Jellie’s b g Game, aged, 9.6 (Thomson) 3 3. Douglas Lovat’s b g Stour ton, 10.5 (Flynn) 3

5 Burton 9.5 carried 9.10 (R. Gray), 6 Appelles 9.2 (Bracken) and 4 Hunakaha 9.1 (McFlvnn) also started. Hunakaha and Continuance took the lead till the entrance, to the straight, followed by Game and Stourton, with Appelles, who got the worst of the start, last. Game then went to the front and led Hunakaha, Continuance, and Stourton over tlie first hurdle, where Appelles unseated his rider. Game led past the stand, but at the seven furlong post Stourton ran into third position and began to work his wav to the front. He and Continuance led along the back and into the straight but Continuance was full of running and drew away, winning by a length and a half from Game, who beat Stourton in the run home by a similar distance. Hunakaha was fourth and Burton last. Time 3.17.

Sisterson’s eh g Oma Tore, 5 yrs, 7.7 (Lorrigan) 3 Colleen Dhu 7.12 carried 8.0 (Whittaker), 5 Fagot 7.74 (including slbs allowance) (Tricklebank). 6 Pasadena 7.7 carried 7.11 (Lowe), 7 Mrs. Bee ton 7.7 (Conquest) and 8 The Glove 7.7 carried 7.124 (Buchanan) also started. Manitau and Colleen Dhu were the first to break the line and were followed doselv bv Oma Tere, Chief Marshal and Pasadena. The last named ran up into third position before a furlong was covered. At the entrance to the straight Manitau was a length in front of Colleen Dhu, alter whom came Oma Tore and Chief Marshal. Oma Tere slipped in on the _ rails as the bend was rounded and joined Colleen Dim while Chief Marshal came up on the outside. Tlie three could make no impressoin on Manitau, who won easily by a length and a half. In a desperate finish between Colleen Dhu Oma Tere and Chief Marshal for second place the last-named gained the verdict by a head from Oma Tere, who was a neck in front of Colleen Dhu. Then came Pasadena, Fagot, add The Glove. Time 1.4 1-5. TARUHERU HACK HANDICAP of 60 sovs; second 5 sovs from stake. One mile:— 5 A. McKenzie’s b f Compliment, by Conqueror-Patipati, 3yrs, 7.8 (Buchanan) 1 2 H.' D. de Lautour’s hr c Sea Pink, 3yrs, 8.12 (Whittaker) ... 2 3 J. Sisterson’s b rn Tyne Lass, 5 yrs, 7.3 (Lorrigan) 3 1 Composed 9.4 (Kirk), 2 Merrie Valet 8.3 (Sceats), 6 Quandary 6.7 (Stowe) also started. From a good start Compliment took the lead and was followed by Tyne Lass, Sea Pink, Merrie Valet and Composed, with Quandary last. Tlie position was unaltered along the back, except that Composed began to move up. Compliment was first into the straight, followed by Sea Pink, Composed, and Tyne Lassj and easily holding his own to the finish, won by a length from Sea Pink, who was half a length in front of Tyne Lass. Composed was fourth, and was followed by Merrie "Valet, with Quandary last. Time 1.43 1-5. SECOND WELTER HANDICAP, of 50

sovs, second 5 sovs from stake; seven furlongs. 1 F. Hall’s b m Hirini by San Remo —Tauhei, fiyrs, 9.6 (Deeley) ... 1 4 J. Plummer's b g Lamsdorff, aged, 9.10 (Kirk) 2 2 F. Jones b g Ardfert, aged, 10.6 (W. Young) ' S 3 Master Stead, 9.2 (Crarer) and 5 Durability S.S (Lowe) also started. Master Stead went away with the lead and was soon joined by Ardfert with Durability, Hinni and Lamsdorff bunched behind. At the four furlongs post Hirini ran up third and the rest of the field closed up. Before the straight was reached Hirini had taken command from Lamsdorff, Durability, Ardfert and Master Stead, and in the run home won easily by three lengths ■from Lamsdorf, who beat Ardfert by a length for sec-ond place. The latter put in a late run in the straight and just headed Durability. Master Stead was last. Time: 1.30 2-osecs.

The only starters. Te Puia lost several lengths at the start and Sublime immediately went to the front. She held command to the seven furlong post, where Cork went on in front and led along the back to the far turn by about a couple of lengths, with Te Puia. a. similar distance away. Sublime then began to move up and got on terms with Cork as the straight was reached. A fine finish ensued and resulted in Sublime gaining the verdict by a head. Te Puia was four lengths further back last.. Time: 2min 1 l-ssecs.
