RIVAL EXHIBITIONS.
AUCK LAN D-C ANTER BUR Y CONTROVERSY. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.iI CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 3. A meeting of the general committee of the Industrial Association was held yesterday afternoon. The following resolution* was unanimously passed; “That tills committee, having ascertained from the Auckland Industrial Association that it has definitely determined to organise an industrial exhibition of a colonial nature in Auckland during the course of the year 1912, decides to* recommend the Canterbury Industrial Association to meet the.views of Auckland, as expressed in their letter, by postponing the proposed Canterbury exhibition until 1913.” The committee passed this resolution on with pleasure, as it cordially recognises the great progress, industrial and otherwise, being made by Auckland district, and the development which is apparent there on every hand. The committee will recommend Canterbury" manufacturers to support the Auckland exhibition, and gladly ep-operate in every'way possible to secure success. The -secretary was instructed, when forwarding the resolution to the Auckland Association, to state that the committee had read extracts from the Auckland daily papers in connection ;h. the proposed exhibition advancing the claims of Auckland as being the leading commercial manufacturing centre of the Dominion. The committee was of opinion that while that sort of thing might be good advertising, it should be deprecated as likely to arouse resentment among people who know better. It was satisfied that this loud trumpeting of Auckland’s claims had not been inspired by the Auckland Industrial Association, and that it was not responsible for such extravagant statements.
