WAITEMATA DEFEATS SYDNEY. CHAMPION MAKES ANOTHER RECORD. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.'] AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. The final swimming carnival in connection with the Sydney team’s visit to tlie Waitemata Club was held in the Auckland graving dock yesterday afternoon, before about 2500 spectators. Swimming was of a high standard, and several records were broken. Miss Durack, Australian lady champion, put up two world’s records for ladies, swimming 410 yards in 6min. 42 secs, beating her previous record by 10 secs. She also swam 50 yards in Slsecs. M. E. Champion reduced his New Zealand mile record from 25 min. to 24 min. 39 4-5 secs. A. TV. Barry (Sydney) swam 100 yards in 59 4-5 secs, and L. Solomons (Sydney) covered 50 yards in 26 secs, both times are inside New Zealand records, but as there is a rule whereby no New Zealand records by swimmers from other states are recognised unless swimmers have- resided in the Dominion three months', (lie old records still stand. 'Waitemata won the inter-club contest with Sydney by 19 points to 14. In this contest the races decided on Saturday were 100 yards and the mile," both scratch events, n. TV. Barry (Sydney) won the 100 yards, L. Boardman (Svdnev) being second and L. Solomons (Sydney) third. The mile resulted : M. E. Champion (Waitemata) 1, (’. Nelson (Waitemata) 2. E. J. McQuillan (Waitemata) 3, and Purnell (Sydney) was fourth. Won by 75 .yards. The three Sydney men in the race were hopelessly outdistanced. The principal of tne other events resulted: —50 yards ladies’ handicap: Miss J. Mackay Msecs 1. Miss Durack scr 2; won by a touch. 50 yards invitation scratch race: Solomons 1, Barry 2. 100 yards breast stroke handicap: H. Jerrom "(Waitemata) 2secs 1. Horton (Waitemata) scr 2; lime Imin. 30 1-5 sec.

Wostralia, in 3min. Msecs, a world's record. Til the 100 yards, free style. Longworth 1, Stcnberg* (TVestralia) 2, Springfield (Queensland) 3. Won by several lengths. Time 58 4-5 secs. SYDNEY. Feb. 4. The ladies’ 110 yards swimming championship of New South Wales was won by Miss Peara in lmin. 23 3-5 secs.
