MEAT WORKS HELD UP.
THE DISMISSAL OF A “CUTTY.”
men satisfied with explanation. [per press association.,! WELLIGTON, Feb. 8. There was a slight cessation of work at the Gear Meat Company’s works at Petone yesterday morning. Early in the morning one of the sub-contractors dismissed a boy employed as a- “gutty,” because, it is asserted, lie was incompetent. The boy immediately complained to his fellow-workers, from whom, it is understood, he received little sympathy. It should be mentioned hero that'this class of men now participate in the contract, and it is not to their interests to have working with them any but the most competent. The boy was not satisfied with the result of this interview, so he made complaint to other sections of workers. _ These began to show 1 ' some interest in the bov’s- case, and work ceased while the position was taken into consideration. A full inquiry was made as to the reasons for dismissal, but in the end the men were satisfied that the subcontractor had acted reasonably, and work was resumed. The trouble lasted about two hours.
