A NEW INDUSTRY.
CASEIN FACTORY TO BE OPENED. HIGH PRICES ANTICIPATED. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION *0 PALMERSTON N., Feb. 8. The question of manufacturing casein is one that is being seriously considered by a number of local co-operative dairv companies at the present time, and'there is every prospect of definite action being taken in the near future. Yesterday a number of directors of dairy companies from this and surrounding districts paid a visit to AYangaeliu, for the purpose of seeing how casein is manufactured, the intention being, as far as can be gathered, to start a co-operative factory in this district. Should the proposal be given effect to each factory will have its own separate plant for the extraction of casein, which will then be sent' to a ’central factory. There is a keen demand for first grade casein, and if a good article is turned out high prices may be anticipated. An expert at present visiting New Zealand states that large quantities are already being manufactured in Sweden and Denmark, and that the farmers there are delighted with the results obtained.
