PERSONAL NOTES.

Colonel Chaytor, of Wellington, arrived at Gisborne from Wellington yesterday morning, and returned South in the evening. Mr J. A. McDonald, M.1.C.E., of Adelaide, who has been asked the Gisborne Harbor Board to wait upon it in regard to tli-e position of engineersecretary, arrived at Gisborne last evening. A special meeting of the Board, which Mr McDonald will attend, will be held on Mondav.

Mr A. C. Philpott, Napier agent ior the Tourist Department, was at Gisborne yesterday. Mr J. J. Kingston, manager of tne Auckland branch" of the South British Insurance Company, Limited, arrived at Gisborne by the Tarawera yesterdav on a short business visit to the bay. Owners of houses will be interested to leant that Mr _ F. Crossley, M.R.C.N .S., is to arrive in Gisborne on the 20th inst. Mr Crosslev is regarded as one of the most eminent horse, doctors in the Dominion. He practised for some years in the United States, where he gained a special certificate for equine dentistry from the (State Board of Veterinary Examiners of New Jersey. Air Crossley lias been very successful in operating on racehorses. and while at Gisborne he will attend to Air C. J. Parker's wellknown horse Baidos. Air George Buller, the well-known theatrical entrepreveur, writing from Sydney, advises that he will visit Gisborne on Alondav and Tuesday, Maxell 11th and 12th. when on behalf of Air Allan Hamilton, lie will present a new English Dramatic Company in ••'The Beauty and the Barge" and •Why Men Love Women."

Lord Pentiaud has been appointed Governor of Madras, says a London cablegram. A Melbourne cable states that Professor Gilnith, of the Melbourne University. has been appointed Administrator of' the Northern Territory- . Mr. Langlands, of the firm of Lauglands and Co., contractors for the extension of tlie breakwater, will arrive at'Gisborne on Saturday.
