The strike committee has not yet played its trump card, which was promised for to-day. WOULD NOT ASSIST. LABOR COUNCIL AND GENERAL STRIKE. (Received 9.10 p.m.) NEWCASTLE, Feb. 14. The Labor Council considered a request to joiii a general strike, and decided that such action would not assist the Brisbane unions. AN OBSOLETE WEAPON. MR. GRIFFITH ON STRIKES. (Received Feb. 15, 12.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 14. Mr Griffith (N.S.W. Minister for Public Works) states that the defeat of the Labor Government in South Australia is a direct result of the Brisbane strike. South Australia had been paralysed by recent strikes and farmers had stanipeded, fearing a possible extension of the Brisbane trouble throughout Australia. The papers told the people that Labor Governments brought about strikes, hence the debacle. He added that every prominent Labor politician regarded the strike as an obsolete weapon and a general strike as. a nice blend of imbecility and barbarism. SLOWLY BACK TO WORK. NO QUESTIONS. (Received Feb. 15, 12.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 14, The steamer Pilbarra brought back from Brisbane her cargo, which she was unable to discharge owing to the strike. BRISBANE, Feb. 14. The police patrols to-day consisted of the ordinary force. Members of several unions have been openly released from strike bonden. Coyne (President of the Australian Labour Federation) declines to say upon what terms. The employers generally, are taking the men back and are asking no questions. NO CARGO FOR BRISBANE. (Received Feb. 15, 1 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 14. None of the shipping companies are accepting cargoes for Brisbane although they are booking passengers.
