“WHOM THE GODS WISH TO DESTROY.”
MR. MASSEY’S OPINION‘‘TRANSPARENT TWADDLE.” “Wliat do I think of it?” repeated '>j r Masse'. , in answer to a query iegarding the Governor’s Speech. "It reminds me of the ancient saying that whom the Gods wish to destroy they first make mad. But really, at a time like this, and after the electors hare just passed judgment upon the Ministry,, it is almost an insult to the intelligence of members and of the public to have such transparent twaddle put forward and dignified by the name of the Governor’s Speech. It is almost impossible to take the thing seriously, and in any case extravagant promises made at the eleventh hour, when the Government. has no longer the confidence of the country, will not atone for the political crimes and follies of past years.” OPPOSITION UNDAUNTED. A SOLID PHALANX. An informal meeting of the Opposition Party was held this morning, and another in the afternoon, after the delivery of the Governor’s Speech. The Opposition is still a remarkably solid and happy phalanx. The much talked-of bomb shell has not in the slightest daunted their courage. On the contrary it has only amused them and strengthened their position.
