SWIMMING.

AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. [per press association. J CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 18. The following are the results of the championship events at. the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Championmataj 1; C. Wilson (Waitemata) 2; Geoff. Sevmour (Napier) 3. H. Jerred (Opawa), * P. A. A. Schwartz (East Christchurch) and R. Healey (Thorndon) also competed. Time 2mm. 34 3-5 secs.—a New Zealand record. Half Mile: M. E. Champion (Waitemata) 1; C. Wilson (Waitemata) 2; C. H. E. Rich (Opawa) 3. Time 12mm. 7 1-5 sec., another New Zealand record. The referee gave his decision in the protest by Newman in the 880yds, and said he regretted he was unable to hold it, but he would give Newman and t-lie other two competitors who were not able to compete an opportunity to swim the course to obtain the standard. It is understood that the . protest is to be taken to the Council of the New Zealand Swimming Association. The following are the Yaklhurst Gup points: Auckland 28, Hawke’s Bay 1, and Canterbury 1. , CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. IS. At the conclusion of yesterday’s programme Newman (Dunedin), Schwartz and Hill (Christchurch) who were unable to compete in the SSOyds championship swam the distance, but- none- of them managed to get the standard time.
