The high heels at present so fashionable with elegant Parisienes do not meet with the approval of the Frehch medical faculty. It is asserted that they displace the centre of gravity and throw the weight of the body entirely on the forefoot, occasioning a contraction of all the muscles of the toes and the muscles of the legs, which eventually result in painful fatigue. Heels of an exaggerated height are also declared to be the cause of frequent accidents owing to the “instability 55 of the wearer, and if long enough continued thcv cause varicose veins.
