AND A SEVERE REBUFF. SEEKING A PAIR FOR MR WILFORD. (pee press association.-] WANGANUI, Feb. 22.. A deputation representing Mr Wiiford’s Hutt committee interviewed the executive of Mr Veitch’s election committee to-night and asked the committee to request Mr Veitch to pair with Air Wilford. TJio committee unanimously declined to accede to the request and resolved to telegraph to Mr Veitch informing him that they have full confidence in his determination to stand by his election pi edges. “ROBERTSON AND RADICALISM !” FLAXMILLERS TAKE A HAND. PALMERSTON N., Feb. 22. From 700 to 800 fiaxmill hands assembled at the Municipal Hall ,at 11.30 ia.m. to-day to consider the dispute between the Flaxmillers’ Association and the Flax Workers’ Union. Before the meeting closed at 3 p-m. the present political situation was considered, and it was resolved to free Air. Robertson (member for Otaki), who was nominated by the Flax Employees’ Union, from his pledge to vote against Sir Joseph Ward, and to strongly urge him to vote for the Government on a no-confidence motion. The motion was carried by acclamation, with only two dissentients, both of whom, it'was explained, had no votes in the'Otaki electorate, while the others had, and represented all parts. The meeting closed with cheers ior “Robertson and Radicalism.” The meeting was not open to the press.
