Alassey for being the medium for the return of so many Opposition members, as that circumstance placed tlie Labor party in the happy position of controlling the House. His sympathies in the main were with the Liberals, but he would never support any party which had Mr. Millar in the Cabinet. Air. Alillar’s attitude in opposing rating on improved value had alienated from him the sympathy of all true Democrats: He criticised the policy of the Government and declared that lie was in favor of an extension of the functions of tlie State. He also criticised the methods of the land department, -and contended that departmental files should he available to every member of Parliament in order to enable him to see the character of transactions. Alembers, lie said, must have absolute straightforwardness on the part of administrators and fullest information of every transaction. He would on this occasion, however, vote for tlie AVard party.
