After the aviator Saudi had journeyed from Erie across the lake to the Canadian shores, he started to return, but had not proceeded far when the engine of the aeroplane stopped, and the machine overturned. Sandt fell uinconscious into the show, which covered the frozen lake, and when he recovered he found himself covered with blood from many cuts. Two boys who witnessed the accident brought aid, and Sandt was rescued. He had crossed Lake Erie in thirty-four minutes.
