THE COAST TOUR(From Our Special Reporter.) The Gisborne cricket team touring «n the Coast arrived at Tokomaru Ba-> from Te Puia Springs yesterday morning and commenced the match aga ms the Tokomaru Bay Club at 10.30 a.in. Tlie Tokomaru men went to the u ket first and scored 67. CapitaT jowiing by Jones and MoMahon ana fast wicket-keeping by McConnell and goo catching by the fieldsmen for the poor showing of the Coastteam. Mill, the ox-Gisbormte with 16, and G. Kelly with 12 were the only batsmen to score double figuies. The Gisborne team responded wrth 150. McMahon, who "layed a capital innings for 64, not out, and Gibson (22) were the only batsmen to get goingThe Tokomaru team s wickets fell for 81 in the second innings; H- J on ' G + s ’ who bowled unchanged .throughout hot i innings, was again in capital form uitli the ball, securing seven for thirty. \\ • Oates (26) and G. The team was entertained af a dance in the Toko-maru Hall last night and will be further entertained at a smoke concert this evening. To-day they will meet a combined Coast team, which will be fairly representative of the strength of the Coast. The members of the Tokomaru Bay Club extended great hospitality to the visitors, and afternoon tea and lunch eon were provided. The weather was fine, and the game was watched by a large number of spectators.
AUCKLAND v. "WELLINGTON. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.!! WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. The wicket was good, the weather fine, and the attendance fairly large for thg match between the Auckland and Wellington cricket representatives which was commenced on the Basin Reserve to-day. The whole afternoon was occupied with Wellington's first innings, which is not yet completed. Auckland were rather weak in bowling, the first partnership lasting almost two hours, and yielding 127.
