TOLAGO BAY RAGES.
A SUCCESSFUL MEETING. AULDEARN WINS A DOUBLE, Fine weather favored the Tologa- Bay Jockey Club for their annual race meeting, which took place on Saturday. The .fixture, which is an exceptionally popular gathering with C-oast people', has undergone a. change since last year, in that the Racing Commission ' curtailed the meeting to one day. This has acted somewhat detrimentally towards the gathering for a large number of Gisborne owners do not now feel disposed to make tire journey for a. single day’s racing. Many Gisborne sportsmen who formerly patronised these races are also of f h_ e same opinion, and consequently the enforced alteration is anything but appreciated. Nevertheless there was a good attendance, and though the majority of the fields were small the racing was full of interest. Auldearn won the Flying Handicap as he liked, but in the ITawa Stakes a splendid finish ensued between him and Game, victory resting with the former by a head. Though only two, Rising Sun and Goldemar, actually contested the Hack Handicap. Rising Sun just managed to win by a- head. Tyne Lass led practically all the way in the Welter Handicap" and returned her comparative--ly few supporters the best dividend of the day. Mr W. Priestly made Ins first appearance at the gathering as starter, and on the whole, when it is considered that the fields had to bo despatched without a barrier, his work was highly satisfactory. The hand!- j capping of Mr J. -Chadwick was also j good, and his adjustments were respon- j sibl-e for some good finishes. The secretary, Mr W. E. Holder, had all the arrangements in first-class order, 3, fact which contributed largely towards the success of the gathering! Speculation was brisk, the. sum of £3943 going through the totalisator, as against £3430 for the first day, and itfiOG for the two days of the previous meeting. Results:
