AN AFFRAY WITH THE POLICE. ENDS IN COURT. [PER I’RKSB association.] TIMARU, Feb. 25. Charles Dunn, A-8., of H.M.S. Pioneer, Avas fined £2 or three days’ imprisonment for drunkenness and obscene language in the streets, and AA’as convicted on a charge of assault on the police. The case Avas the outcome of a melee in Avhieh two police officers—Sergeant Dart and Constable Fulton —-were badly mauled, especially the former, by a number of drunken m-en-o’-Avansmen, assisted by some town hoodlums. The police were unable to identify the others. The Magistrate said lie had made the penalty light, as the man could he dealt with further’ aboard his ship. The men were alloAved a certain amount of liberty ashore, but they must donfonn to the civil haws.
